duncan detonator hb 108 ?

I saw a jackson warrior that interested me at my local guitar shop, and the pups were duncan design detonator hb 108, I know they have the output of the invader and all but never heard of them before, are they any good ? If you had experience with them please tell me what did you tough of them and for whats style do you recommend them

I had a Detonator in an old Dean and actually liked it better than the Invader that was in it, before. IMHO, it was a little bit brighter and more clear than the real deal with just as much power.

They're actually closer to the Distortion than the Invader (which is a good thing). Yes, they're good pickups. They're even better when you swap the ceramic magnet out for an A8.

would you recommend them for thrash metal ? and i dont give a **** about having a crystal clear sparklin clean whatever from these pups x)

Who said anything about clean? If you play thrash, wouldn't you want a bit of clarity and definition on that riffage? I think it would be a much better, tighter pickup to get you teh brootz...

I just mention the clean thing in case someone came and tell me that the pups is bad for clean stuff because I mostly dont, for these pups im just wondering because if they are good I wont have to change them, I dont want ultimate definition in the distortion this will be a backup guitar/pratice guitar

They're much better for thrash than the Invader. They're tighter.

As a matter of fact, you got me thinking about it and I ended up running up to GC and buying one. It's got lots of power and a really cool grind to it, and harmonics just jump out of it, especially those...erm...Dime-type squeels.

Doesn't the detonator have 2 ceramics while the invader has 3?

I love my invader for thrash, I don't know if I'd like it as much if the guitar it's in didn't have a mahogony body though.

Nope, one big mag, just like a DD. It's a really good pickup, they need to make them a standard USA model. I LOVE it with an A8 too, real gnarly.

Where do you get an AB magnet?
I don't see a magnet on the bottom of my HB108 detonator (was going to try it in a firebird clone!

Greetings pawleep! I'll go to the good place and assume you were doing some serious research and came upon this corpse of a thread!

Stewmac.com sells A5/A2, Allparts has a few I think.

On eBay, Philaluthiertools has them.


I love my Detonator. It is [for all practical purposes] a Distortion that has a double row of invader poles. They take a little of the nasty off the edge of it. I prefer a Distortion, but the Detonator is awesome too.

No complaints about the product. Fair warning, though. You’ll be going from a double thick magnet to a regular magnet. You’ll likely have to turn the spacer magnets on their side to make up the difference in thickness.

Also, since you mentioned looking for the magnet on the bottom of the pickup, I thought this instructional thread would be helpful for you. Swapping a magnet isn’t a big deal, but it’s a bit more involved than the magnet simply being attached to the bottom of the pickup’s baseplate.
