  • Help! What is the recommended wiring for my pick ups?

    Hello Guys,
I need help about the proper wiring diagram.

I have a dimebuck for my bridge, 1 stk2 for the neck and another stk for the middle.
I also have a 5 way selector and a push pull volume of 500K.

I noticed lately that the STK's require 250K pots only.
Can i combine them? If possible and would be not much of trouble.
Can someone please send me the complete wiring diagram to make it sound best?

I hope to get support soon.

    respectfully,
    ODNID

    welcome to the forum!!

if you are only going to have one control then stick with your 500k volume. if you find the single coils are too bright then youll need to look at changing something.

I'd like to suggest you to have a look at below link. Very good wiring diagrams for almost every setup:

Hand-crafted electric guitar pickups, acoustic guitar pickups, bass pickups and pedals. Helping musicians find their signature sound since 1976.

Re: Help! What is the recommended wiring for my pick ups?

        Hello Sean,
thanks for the link...my problem is I am confused of what kind of pick up i have.
Is STK-S2 and S9 hot stack pick ups are humbuckers?

        I cannot find a wiring with 3 hum + ! tone + ! volume.

        This is my plan:
        Neck -- STK S2
        Mid - STK S9
        SH13 - Humbuckers
I will add 1 tone and 1 volume push pull of 500K.
Can you recommend what wiring diagram to use?
        thanks

          Odnid,
The stk is a humbucker, for all intents and purposes.
The coils are stacked, hence the applied name.

Choice of pot value is also personal preference,
I still use well over 250k in every scenario, but the 'right' thing to do is often subjective.

            thanks Rob!
as i thought..your advice help me move forward.
I will then experiment with my circuit and check which one i prefer.

            cheers!

Replace one knob with a stacked dual-concentric 250k/250k pot, and set one of them up as volume and the other as tone. Connect the stks to the 250k volume portion of the pot, and the dime to the 500k pot.

Re: Help! What is the recommended wiring for my pick ups?

Looks like you gonna need a combined wiring diagram.

                1. Wiring for STK-S2:
Hand-crafted electric guitar pickups, acoustic guitar pickups, bass pickups and pedals. Helping musicians find their signature sound since 1976.

                2. Wiring for STK-S4:
Hand-crafted electric guitar pickups, acoustic guitar pickups, bass pickups and pedals. Helping musicians find their signature sound since 1976.

Both above shows the wiring with coil splitting(push/pull) to 5-way switch. From the description and wires from the pickup, S4 has additional GREEN wire which makes it same as your SH13 wires.

This one shows the clearer wiring for humbucker. You may ignore the single in the middle.

Maybe you could combine these all into one diagram and put up here and see if other experienced members might be able to check and verify it for you.

Re: Help! What is the recommended wiring for my pick ups?

Thanks Sean...yes, i have it sketched using those three diagrams you linked.
Here it is as I find it.
Let me know for any corrections.
Still my dilema is do i need 500K or 250K.
Not sure what will be ther sound of the STK's with a 500K pot
OR the sound of SH13 with a 250K pot.

I appreciate all technical advise...thanks to this forum and those who are helping.

You will develope a feeling for what pot values you like.
Start with 500 since you can go up or down from it maybe.

250 is hardly enough juice for me even for stk's.
                      Then again I love a custom with 250's.....and a tonezone at 1meg....
                      It'll vary alot

You can read further about the 250K and 500K difference here:

Oh, you might as well want to consider purchasing the Liberator. You know, looking at the amount of soldering that you gotta do with your guitar setup. This should save your time a bunch and you can experiment further safely.

Thank you Rob...i am not happy with the 500K pots and 0,047 mFd caps.
I will try the 250K's with 0,022 mFd.

Do you think it will not spoil my dimebuckers? it is recommended to be wired using a 500K pot and 0,047 caps

i think i seem to find that the stk s2 and s9b's are too bright with the 500K poys and 0,047 caps.. i will rewire and use the 250K and 0,022 cap
