  • Epiphone Zakk Wylde

    Hi guys,

This year I' ve bought this Epiphone Les Paul Zakk Wylde.
Don't worry, this isn't a complaint thing. I'm still very satisfied with it! :P

There is only one point of wondering, and that is about the EMG HZ pick-ups.
I got my Zakk Wylde with the gold logo (H4A, Alnico5) in the neck position, and the silver logo pick-up (H4, ceramic) in the bridge.

But when I look at he photo at the Epiphone website I see the opposite:
the gold logo pup is in the bridge and the silver logo pup is in the neck.
    Yes, I've got good eyes.

Why is this different? Is there a explanation for?
I personally think it is better that the ceramic (silver) pup is in the bridge, but I'm just curious if you guys know this.
I have written Epiphone also about this, but I think that you guys at the forum are much wiser.

weird.. does it sound kind of off way? like at the same height is the neck pup a lot louder? did epiphone write you back yet?

but my advice, save up some money and go for real EMG's or some other pups. the HZ series is ****e

the ceramic version will have more output. the h4a is kinda like an 85 the h4 is kinda like an 81 so if you have the alnico in the neck, its similar to what zakk has in his guitar

The color scheme, as you described it, also supports this (81-silver, 85-gold).

I havn't heard of Epiphone yet, but I think they have messed up with the two pups.
Maybe they thought it looks nicer that way.

About the HZ... I don't consider them top of the bill, but there not garbage either.
I will save for some decent Duncans , but first I will buy a POD 2.0, then I can get rid off my Digitech RP50 first.

          One step at the time.

          Peace!

            Re: Epiphone Zakk Wylde

i got no idea. maybe it's a mistake the tech that put it together made.

about the HZ's, fuzzy n' buzzy thats what i call em =P a bit close minded but hey.. it's just li'l ol' me hehe.

i say get rid of the digitech first, grab a pod, sell those HZ's (you wont believe, but there are people actually buying them) and go for a set of your preference

Hmm although im not a fan of metal i do liek that guitar well not its looks but it feels great to play. As for the pick ups im guesing your tech messed up. You could always swap them out for a pair of duncans!

the ceramic H4 is supposed to go in the bridge since it is the same as a EMG 81 only passive.
i do agree with you about the pic seen here it is the gold one in the bridge?

I would switch them around if it were my zakk LP

                      He mr. Sabotage,

                      You've done your homework!
Nice pictures he? Plays like hell too!

I'm glad you agree with me.

It ain't a big thing, but I'm a very curious person and wondered why the pups are mixed up for the promo-pictures.
Was there some guy replacing pick-ups only for the photo?

                      I've got answer from Epiphone:

The website indicates the HZ H4A is in the neck position and the HZ H4 is in the bridge position.
Is this the way your pickups are set?

LOL, you wont get the admittance from epi... maybe in some time, but not very fast.

IF you go the EMG route, DONT!!!!!! buy the Zakk EMG set. get the separate pups instead. SAME thing, EMG just ripps you off for the Zakk set, just because his name is on the box. get an 81 and 85 (right? yes? no?) separate and save some dough. they are the exact same pups
