Unless you have a 60's Marshall Plexi with 6CA7 powe tubes, Variac, and either an ash body strat or explorer, I wouldnt worry about what pickup you have

That's how you get the tone. That and having your chops in shape and being able to play well. Contrary to popular belief the brown sound is not THAT hard to ballpark.
Seriously... this subject has been discussed so many times before. There's a reason anything EVH related has been banned on the Ernie Ball board...

I will repeat,I have owned tried 60s plexis,tried the variac BS,I have many guitars made out of northern hard ash.There is no such thing as '' Can't " to me, so thanks guys I will try different forums(other places).None of the clips that are out there(many)have achieved the Van halen 1 sound(first album) so you keep trying.Any one want to buy a New Seymour Duncan Custom SH-5 in black I ordered it with no logo on the pickup,pm me if interested.............:beerchug:

If you are upset with me thats a bit unfair since all i did was ask a question to which what you will do with the VH 1 tone once you get it?
I personally think the chase is fun but once i started saying to myself hey what now? i mean unless you are going to just have fun in the bedroom or with a tribute/cover band i dont see why nailing this tone is a good thing?
The funniest part of the VH 1 tone obsession is that eddie himself did not care for that tone! now thats hilarious! the most chased tone is the least liked my the man himself! LMFAO
