You choose it, but I think the parallel wiring is the standard wiring for vintage tone.

I have my middle and neck vintage rails wired in series/paralell and they sound great.I use paralell for strat style playing, cleans. Use the series for leading with distortion/overdrive. Bridge pu is CS '78, wired series paralell too!! Dimarzio push/pull 500K pot.
