  • Telecaster "dark" wiring question

I always thought that the '53 Tele wiring was this:

    1. Neck pickup + cap (to simulate a bass)
    2. Neck pickup
    3. Bridge pickup

But when I watched this video...

This fifty-six year old Butterscotch Blond beauty weighs just 7.60 lbs. Solid ash body, fretted maple neck with a lovely medium-to-thick profile and a nut wi...

...what Phil said at 1:14 really confused me. My question is, will I be missing anything special if I do standard Neck, Neck/Bridge, Bridge wiring? Or is the middle position on the "dark" wiring just a neck pickup, and nothing more?

    Re: Telecaster "dark" wiring question

The single-pickup Esquire wiring was: dark - normal - no load. That might be what the guy was talking about. Cannot watch the video right now, as my connection has been acting up.

P.S. I was able to look at the video after letting it load for 10 minutes, and I also looked up that dark circuit you were talking about. (Take a look at http://www.seymourduncan.com/images/.../1953_tele.jpg and http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaste...e-circuit.html.) The guy in the video was just saying how when you have the dark circuit, you get a unique tone in the middle switch position.
