Re: Does an A2Pn work for SG

      I have played/owned A2P. I have played SG's.

I CAN'T imagine it would not, depending on what you are looking for.

      As always, the big three:

A2P = Bass, Mids, fat highs
      59 = Bass, Highs
PG = Upper mids, highs, sweet tippy top

ONE of those has the EQ that works for the specific guitar you are interested in playing. Just a matter of paying attention to the guitar's EQ and the pups, and asking: Is that what I want?

a bright SG, with a PG = Black Sabbath without treble booster.

A dark SG, with an A2P = Clapton Woman Tone.

Well cool, 'cause I'm going to be swapping out the stock pickups for either a '59 or a PG in the bridge, and either an A2P or PG in the neck.

        mwalluk, I'll let you know.

And post samples, if I can find a way to that I like. But first I gotta get the studio reassembled. :bangs head on desk:

I have an A2P set in an LP, and I like them better than PG's. The neck is better defined and not so smooth and rounded, and the bridge is fuller. I've got all of Duncan's PAF's, and A2P's are one of my favorites, after Seth's of course.

Sweet. I may end up putting it an LP. I wanted to get a full shred neck but man are those hard to find now.

Re: Does an A2Pn work for SG

I had A2P in the neck of an SG and I really didn't like it at all. Just no guts, very bland. After that I had an EMG 85 which was great if you like that sort of thing. A few years late I ended up with a JM in there, which was amazingly much better than either. Just right.

A JM? Are you referring to a Jazz?

                  Ignoring the specific guitar...

A2 in the neck and PG in the bridge = super-wide range. Ultra treble to ultra fat

PG in the bridge to A2 in the bridge = more even/balanced. Cutting pup in the neck, fat pup in the bridge.

BOTH are cool arrangements - just a matter of your preferences.

I often group the A2P in with Seth, PG, 59, but it is really more modern than those.
