  • ceramic in a 59?

What would a ceramic magnet from a Distortion do to a 59? Anyone ever try?

I'm thinking it might have some tonal characteristics of the Custom.

yea, there are a couple of guys around here that did the magnet swap. the magnet from a distortion is diferent than the one in the custom though.. the DD magnet is one big ass mother****er if you know what i mean.
the tone will change. the trebble side of it will be more emphasised, whereas you'll lose some low end, it'll be more agressive, but for a better understanding, you'll need some sound clips of it.

yup, it will, since the custom is PAF voiced, but to what extent, is a diferent matter, since the custom was built around the ceramic magnet, thus voiced for it. therefore, your experiment can and will yield diferent results.

more agressive yes.. but fuller.. i'd have to hear it to believe it to be honest.
but at the moment, rid is sporting a 59b2 in the tips and clips forum. a 59 bridge bucker with an A2 magnet and IMO, it sounds bloody amazing
