  • I put Quarter Pounders in my Strat

I received an American Special recently and I first installed the YJM Furys. I like the neck pickup as it has a real fluid sound, but I still found the bridge pickup to be too thin in the treble strings. This is the problem I have encountered for awhile now.

I heard a guy on YouTube reviewing the Ritchie Blackmore Strat and that guitar comes with the Duncan Quarter Pounders. I loved the tone. It sounded thick, broad, and chunky.

So I decided to order a set and last night I installed them in my American Special. Wow! No more ice-pick in the bridge. They smooth out the treble considerably. When I play a power chord I get a nice big, broad sound without boominess or mud.

If you are looking for a broad, large single-coil tone that still bites without the usual shrill and thin bridge, the Quarter Pounders are an excellent choice.

I've always wanted a set, or at least one or two, in one of my Strats. Glad you like 'em.

How do you like the tapped sound? Anything like a normal Strat bridge pickup?

I would love to see them made in white...

Sorry. I don't know anything about tapping.

Would you say that they are actually good for metal ?

High output true single-coil. Recommended for blues, classic rock, garage, heavy rock, classic metal and nu-metal.
I know it says they can handle it, im asking to see personal opinion.

I would say yes. I'm learning The Green Manalishi by Judas Priest right now and they sound fabulous. Now I don't know if you would be satisfied if you are into more modern, speed, death metal. I'm not into that. The stuff I play is Judas Priest, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dokken, Deep Purple, Robin Trower etc. Stuff like that, and I play with a lot of gain and balls.

They are a great sounding pickup that gives you a thicker, smoother tone than a conventional single-coil.
