  • Birth of a mongrel Strat.

Alright, so, I'm putting together a mongrel Strat
partially inspired by the GREAT Yngwie, so a HS-3 is ordered
to go in the bridge. I am however using the neck from my first
guitar, which was a noname strat-copy.

Well, I'm not sure as to what to put in the neck?
It's probably gonna be another HS-3 or possibly a YJM.

I'm curious to know though, how the HS-3/YJM differs in sound
    in the neck slot?

    Thanks.

I've had both, and still have a YJM. I prefer the yjm in the n/m because the string definition seems better--it has a more 'plucky' sound that's a bit brighter. Not a huge difference, but pretty noticeable with cleaner sounds. However, it is a radical magnet stagger that works best on a tight fingerboard radius. I currently have it mounted in the neck of a guitar with a very flat radius & the string-to-string balance caused me trouble. After lots of tweaking, I finally solved it by lightly degaussing the 'G' mag. Prior to that, the G/B balance was way off. Yngwie uses a 7-1/4" to 9-1/2" radius and only a 14 on his G string, so stock YJM's work fine there.

I like my strings a little heavier than Yng Almighty, preferably 10-52s

I think I've found the neck for it too
