      While the original may not have had them - I think the screw is mighty good idea.

      #1 important thing: Proper DISTANCE to the string. And by distance I mean shortest path. That does not necessarily mean directly under. Sting vibe emanates outward. Not just down.

      #2 Be sure to adjust for string arc.

      I get the theory in the picture shown with thinner strings meaning closer pieces. But the pic is a little unrealistic when you think about the very slight differences in string guage. I think the arc is a bigger influence.

      And while I don't think the slot makes a bit of diffe3rence, I do one of the /\/\ Patterns.

        me too! along with the diagram for the heights that was posted by XylemBassGuitar
        i am now getting a much better balanced tone so those that say it makes no diff i totally disagree
