The Custom is always a good starting point and it will keep you busy when you start mag swapping. The 59 goes well with the custom as a neck pickup. A pearly gates neck is also worth looking at.

So i'm looking for a more versatile combination , one that could provide me tones from Jimmy Page , to Slash , to Kirk Hammet , even Randy Rhoads . I think for versatility, JB-59 or JB-Jazz model is the best.

While I am at it, I would also recommend get a 59 in reverse polarity. I found that in combination with the bridge pickup in the mid position, it exudes a single-coil like tone, in my Epiphone LP.

            custom bridge, 59 neck.
If that isnt perfect for your needs straight out of the box, both pickups sound great with all manner or different magnets.

This why I use a 59 in the neck

I'd say a either a 59 or Custom 5 in the bridge and a pearly gates in the neck.

Also, yes, you would want to change to 500K pots.

I first considered the Jb / Jazz set because i heard it's really versatile . But now i'm leaning towards Jb/59 or Custom/59

                        Are you in Europe?

If you are, I have an already modded A4 '59n/A8 Custom nickel covered set for sale.

If you're in the US, it's a no go.

                        Let me know.
