  • 3 vs 5 way switch

I just got passives and I'm in the process of installing them. What is the difference between 3 and 5 way switches? Will there be any loss of power in the humbuckers if I split them? Sorry, I'm a n00b at audio stuff. Basically, can I still get full humbucker sound from my bridge while still having the 4 other options? ;D

Is this an HH or HSS guitar?

I'm assuming it's already cut for a Fender-style blade switch. Is that right?

Yes, there will be a loss in power in the humbuckers if you split them. Or you can look at it the other way around. Consider the split sound your "baseline" settings, and the dual coil sounds your "boost" settings.

Humbucker/Humbucker. I discovered it's not possible to wire it the way I wanted to with my volume/volume/tone knob set up, so I'm going for the classic 3-way hum/both/hum.
