  • Where to buy pickup wrapping tape.

Hey guys ive recently come into a situation where I need some tape for wrapping humbuckers.

First off I took the cover off a BKP nailbomb because I got it cheap and it was ugly as sin. The coils weren't wrapped under the cover.

Secondly I created a hybrid pickup using an entistle HDN & an iron gear hot slag. It sounds amazing in an over the top tube screamer boosted metal fashion (clips to follow)

I used good old electrical tape but id like to get something that looks a little neater.

    THanks.

      Thanks!

I never check stewmac being in the UK. I should really look on there more.

Ill get my chassis guy to grab some and ship it over with some chassis I have on order.

A Crusty suggestion is "use hemming tape ", widely available where sewing supplies are found. It comes in various widths and is almost exactly the same as what you'll find on pups.

              Uh, no...

The StewMac tape is thinner than the 3M tape used by Duncan and DMZ. I have searched in vain for single rolls, but you can only get it by the case (about $800).

If someone knows of a way to get single rolls, please share.

I've used some of this. It is good for it.

                  Mojotone sells it.

You can also use 3M Photo Tape. It comes in 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch, I believe. It is basically black, light-proof masking tape, so it can be easily cut to the right width. Just lay the tape out on a piece of glass first, and cut it to width with a straightedge and a blade. This is my favorite tape for the purpose, as the stickum is less gummy than most other tapes.

The Stewmac tape is also narrower than the original.

                    Sources greatly appreciated.

Thinner as in width? or the thickness of the tape itself? if it is just a matter of it being thinner in thickness i can wrap the pickup more turns to make up for it.

Width. You'll need to wrap it twice to cover near the bobbins and the baseplate. Otherwise the wire insulation or mag are exposed.

Thanks for the suggestion on the hemming tape.

                            hemming tape.
                            Here's some pics
The cream bobbin/coil is from a DMZ Super Distortion, the other an Epiphone"59".

why not just use electrical tape? that's what i do if the cloth tape won't stick anymore. never had a problem.
Regarding any post I've made before 2018, assume I've changed my mind by now.
