YES!!!! Great move by SD, the originals are amazing sounding pickups.

Too cool for words! Has anyone heard them that know the originals?

Are they made the same way?

    Evan? Anybody?

Guild asked us to re-create the Franz P-90s. And Kevin Beller did exactly that. They are made in the Custom Shop.

To me they just have a great organic sound. Usually a little underwound compared to a Gibby. I only have one and it is in the Guild X-50 I scored earlier this year, it's been at the shop a while for new binding and some other minor repairs but when I get it back I will do some clips.

Makes a great Jazz pickup (D'Angelico used them) and sounds wicked under some gain too.

I'd say it's the size and the shape of the covers.

                  Re: Duncan Franz (Fransch) P-90's

Hopefully it is more than just the size and shape of the covers. They definitely used different bobbins than normal P-90's not sure how different the mags or wire were. They seem like they might have been built as a cheaper alternative than a Gibson pickup but they really do sound fantastic.

I've seen them in DA's, Guilds, Harmony's and a few others. They were made by a smallish shop in Queens called the Fransch Electric Company and used by a number of manufacturers in the area. Real nice clean ones can go for a decent dollar but they generally fly under the radar. It's nice to see Guild go back and use them and really great to see SD involved. I will definitely be trying the CS versions at some point in the not to distant future.

                        Re: Duncan Franz (Fransch) P-90's

I have a vintage Franz (Fransch) pickup that was pulled from an old Guild Aristocrat M-75 years ago and I'm looking for info on who I should contact at SD to purchase a new set.

                        Thanks,

                        Shawn.
