  • DD/C hybrid -- which mag (?)

Most likely about to get a distortion(screw)/custom(slug)
    Hybrid.

For those with experience, I am
    Looking for your recommendations and/or
    Experiences with magnets.

This specific pickup will be in an
Alder strat with a floyd, maple/pau ferro neck,
area 61 middle, and p90 neck.

I'm currently thinking an UOA5 would be a great fit.
I LOVE A8's, but i think it may overpower the other pickups.

Thoughts? My strat is tuned to D Standard.

Edit: I go for something between Jerry Cantrell's and Pepper Keenan's tone.

I know the double thick ceramic makes me wanna chug but the small. Ceramic had me playing down and coc riffs.

Problem is, as with an A8, I think ceramics would overpower the other pickups...

A4 might be a good start?

Do A4's have the tonal characteristics of A8's, just lower power?

No. They r relatively flat eq that's why I figured it would be a good starting point. A3 would be pretty low output but still have big mids and a brighter high than a2. Honestly though I love this pup for its brutality and clarity. I may goof off with and a2 this weekend and let you know what I find

You may want to consider a8 and small ceramic and mess with the pickup height and pole adjustment

A4s have a similar EQ to A8s, maybe a bit more even.

The low end is a bit loose, sorta like an A2. Doesn't have the thick growly low-mids of the A8, or the same mid voicing. The A4 mids aren't accentuated in any particular frequency. Highs are smooth, sorta like the A8. Lots of attack on the notes from lows to highs. Definitely a lot lower output than an A8. Output level to my ears is probably about the same as A2.

                  Thansk for the replies guys.

Where do you think an UOA5 would sit with this hybrid?
Seems like it may be good middle ground..

It will. Definatly lower the output. Probally keep the mids from getting too smooth

                      That would be sweet!

Honestly I'll probably have you ship it to me with an A8, but if it's too much
for the other pickups I'll just slap in a UOA5 and bet on the mix of results of
my A8 experience and your A2 experience.
