  • any X2N users here?

I got one on the way from a trade i made for my TB-4.
hope this thing is as vicious and ruthless as i am anticipating
the JB is a great pup but sometimes it just did not have the brewtallity i needed.

yeah thats what i hear, but can i ask this it is a 14.5K ceramic model
which is not really wound that hot so
where does it get all this overkill output from? those large blade poles?
I was reading that it is best to use it set real far from the strings also?

a step up from the jb....more like 2 steps up, it is a all out shreading pickup, very serious pup, i was going to get one but a dd came my way and i couldent resist it, i did some research on the x2n, and some told me it is so powerful that if you move it close to the amp, you get serious humming, but it does seriously scream...........good luck

                    Re: any X2N users here?

I had an X2N...way more output than I would ever need. Todays amps, pre-amps, and amp modelers have so much gain, I don't ever need any more output than a JB or DD really. But the X2N does have a unique voice outside of it's pickup....it seems very well balanced.

If they made one with less output I'd definitely keep it.

DC nor magnetic strength is an exclusive game in the output area ... the X2N is a very flat pup (some say bright, it just has it's highs extended flatter ... this doesn't necessarily give any particular character per se') ...
You tilt the X2N to adjust for any string volume balance issues between the wound and plain strings ... you don't put it far from the strings either ... it's just that it's not necessary to get it close to develop it's full potential gain wise.

Could we please have everything louder than everything else ? ...

It may not be *necessary* to have one with the high gain rigs these days ... but it sure is cool too!

yeah dave had it in the neck of his SG on the back picture of "KILLERS"
i liked his neck tone on that disc a lot. but keep in mind he used the super D and the PAF in his black strat.
but i also like what i have heard about the X2N in the bridge spot,it is supposed to be a very high clarity, tighter than tight, balanced tone pup?
I did some checking on it and it seems to me that even though it has this rep for being a overkill output monster it actually has a great tone.
I will be using it with a JCM 800 which is not a high gain monster like a 5150 or a XXX
the JCM 800's actually could use a bit more PUSH for the style i play!
