  • Question about Squier Strat and hot/cool rails pickups

Hello everyone! Short time lurker, first time poster.
If this is in the wrong thread or I did something wrong just let me know.

I've been playing my old squier strat for around 6 years, and I'm looking to get some better tone out of it.
I was planning on buying the Prewired Liberator Pickguard to put on my Standard Strat.

    http://www.amazon.com/Seymour-Duncan...ired+liberator

I was going to go with Hot rails for a bridge pickup, and Cool Rails for the neck. I don't have any experience changing pickups and I want to know if this will work before i spend all my money. Anyone know if this will work?

    Thanks,
    -Sean

Re: Question about Squier Strat and hot/cool rails pickups

say you are gonna buy the pickguard and just slap some duncans?

ok well the liberator should be the solder free way to do that

most of us would just grab a 12 dollar pickguard and some pots from Guitarfetish dot com
    and solder it up

but if you wanna spend the price of the axe upgrading it
    of course it will work

    unloaded pickguard = 100 bucks
pickups = at least 60 each new = 180 bucks
Squire strat vintage modified with duncans
about 300 to 350 at MF

    edit
    324 with duncan designed pickups

Does it really need to be solder free? You could put those pickups in your existing pickguard - it's two wires to solder per pickup. Everything else would stay the me and you'd save a fair bit of money.

Oh! I should be able to solder it easy enough! I thought I needed all the other electronic stuff bundled in there. Thank you!

I think I will try that site definitely. Thanks for saving me the money!

EDIT: I stumbled upon this while looking at pickguards, it looks like the same thing but for 20 bucks. I think I might go with this.
