Cool Rails Neck, Vintage Rails Middle, Hot Rails Bridge

Y'all

I have an American Strat with a Hot Rails in the bridge position. THe stock single coils pups in the middle and neck can't hold up to the bridge humbucker. What if I go with a Cool Rails on the neck and a Vintage Rails in the Middle to compliment the Hot Rails I already have in the bridge?

No, try a hot rail for neck first. It isn't nearly as hot as the name says, it is pretty much PAF class output wise.

Other than that:

The cool rails kind of sucks in my opinion.

If you don't want to consider the hot rails neck I would get one vintage rails first and put it in the neck. Then you have the option of either moving it to the middle and getting a a hotter neck pickup or you can get another vintage rails.

If you want some steam in a single coil I'd consider a SSL-3, too. Vintage rails and the stacks can be a little wimpy, too, if you combine them with a really hot bridge pickup.

Is the Vintage Hot Rails "hotter" then the Cool Rails? I'm looking for pups that can compete with the Hot Rails bridge pup.

What is a "Vintage Hot rails"

Sorry. Meant the Vintage Rails. Looking for a good pup for the neck and middle to pair with my Hot Rails in the bridge position.

Re: Cool Rails Neck, Vintage Rails Middle, Hot Rails Bridge

Well what I think is that you should consider the hot rails neck which aren't all that hot.

The vintage rails in particular I never had but I think the idea is that it's right back at wimpy Strat alike.

Re: Cool Rails Neck, Vintage Rails Middle, Hot Rails Bridge

I had Hot-Vintage-Cool Rails in a Strat for a while and liked the Cool Rails just fine. It was hot enough to offer a good lead sound, but not so hot that it couldn't do a semi-decent clean. I've since sold that guitar, and that Cool Rails now lives in the neck of my beater Charvel with a SH5 Custom in the bridge.

I'm with uOpt when he says the Cools Rails kinda suck. thick and muddy. when you use a Hot Rails and then imagine what a Cool Rails should be, this is not it.

I also agree that the Hot Rail might not be the best bridge model unless you are looking for something that sounds thick like an Invader, which is what the Hot Rail was modeled after when it was made. the Hot Rail is great in the middle and the neck position. for a noiseless bridge pickup, get a humbucker.

the Vintage Rail does have a very nice classic vintage tone, but not much output... it will be over-ran by most other moderate to high output pickups. if that is the output range you want, it's a great tone. if you want something louder that will have the same tone, check out the STK-S4.

I don't agree with the guy about the cool rails and I do know what a vintage rail is. Check out this video with the configuration ur talking about. Let it help u decide. Talk is cheap.
