  • does anyone know if I can do this?

I have a set of zebra humbuckers that I'd like to use in a guitar and I'd love to do this to them (see pic)
    chrome mount with pearloid

anyone know if this is something that I can order and how difficult would it be to do

worse case scenario is it something I could order from the SD custom shop?

    The DIY way:
Mojo sells the open frame humbucker covers. Get some pearloid pickguard material, drill some holes for the polepieces and trim to the correct size and put everything together.

Check your local laws and ordinances before you attempt it.

That looks great! Is that an image of something that is already available as shown, or did you photoshop this look together? I see Mojotone sells the open-center type cover:

Also, there are plenty of online companies that sell the acrylic sheet in white pearl. Pickguard material seems like it might be a little thick...maybe something thinner would work better?

Cut, fit and fasten! Good luck with your custom!

those are lollar pickups so I could order a set but they are pricey at $165 a pickup

and I have a set of Fralin pure PAF's that I can use my other idea is to use a set of seth lovers

btw I want to stick them in this guitar

Lollars are excellent, but so are Fralins, and you already have them. Then again, you can get a set of Seth's for about what one Lollar would cost. Three great PU's...decisions, decisions....

The cheap 3 ply ones are around 2.2mm thick. Nickel covers usually overlap the pickup baseplate around that much so it's still possible to solder them on. If not, the bottom pickguard layers can be sanded off.

Cellulose Nitrate (inlay material) can also be used for this. It's around 1.9mm thick and can be sanded too.

Either way, everything can be compensated with the pickup and polepiece's height.

There's a guy on ebay selling stick on bobbin covers.
I'm sure he has different pearloid tops.
