  • 3 wire pickup questions help

    i have a gibson super deluxe mini humbucker b pickup. it has red, black and bare wires. Where do the red , black and bare wires go? can anyone help me?

      thanks hermetico. can this pickup be split or coil tapped? i hope someone can give me some few more pointers.

        Nope you need 4 wires to coil split you could perform the modification yourself if you're willing to open it up and you can hold your own with a soldering iron

          Actually, you only need 3, which is why PRS and Carvin humbuckers can be split without issues. You need 4 for series /parallel. But those 3 wires have to be the right ones (pu start, split shunt {essentially duncan`s r+w as one wire}, pu end). Usually the lead will have a bare shield as well, so on a "3 wire" you´ll usually have 4 actual wires, just like you have 5 wires on a 4 conductor pickup.

          But that´s semantics, in essence you are correct

            Then again, I've seen this before on old USA-made Peavey pickups. Black was hot, red was the tap, and bare is ground. It would be worth checking with a meter. You may be all set to go as is.
