Jerry Donahue and a STR-1 for tele

So i'm building a tele, alder body and maple neck, and after listening to the soundclips and reading the forums i really like the sound of the Jerry Donahue in the bridge. SD says it matches best with a APTR-1 in the neck, but I liked the brighter sound of the STR1. Is there any reason these 2 wouldn't go well together? i've tried a million humbuckers but i dont know too much about tele pickups. help a metal guy trying to find some twang out!
