  • Stacked Pup Recommendations?

    Hey there!

I'm planning to swap out the stock neck pup of my Standard Strat with a that would:

    1. Balance well with a JB Jr. bridge
    2. Sound PAF'ish -- meaning, warm, round, huge... not necessarily honky, although I'd be cool with that as well.
    3. Stacked so as to keep the "look" but it has to be noise-free.

I'm thinking DiMarzio Virtual Solo or Vintage Heavy Blues 2

    Opinions? Suggestions?

The Virtual Solo will be a bit smoother and have rounder highs (along with more power and output) - modern high gain/neo classical vibe

The VVHB2 is more like a big and fat strat sound with HUGE piano-tone on the low strings and lots of girth and punch to the high strings... vintage hot vibe with a modern touch

It's a toss-up that will most likely depend upon your playing style... the Virtual Solo will be a good bit darker than the VVHB2 with more midrange too (the VVHB2 has that classic lightly scooped strat sound).
Best amp tech I've ever had and hands down one of the best electronic/sound wizards in the NC Piedmont.

If it helps, I like Yngwie's Neck Pup tone in Marching Out. I also use a lot of gain -- heavy metal basically.
