  • Pearly Gates/JB/59 Custom Hybrid Split Coil Tones

Anyone have experience splitting the coils on the bridge pearly gates, JB, or 59?
I want to try it with a triple shot mounting ring so I can get parallel, series, and split coil sounds.
What do you guys think of these pickups split coil? Which one sounds the best split coil?

Pearly gates is really thin and bright, jb is a thicker one at 8ishk ohms with a pretty thin wire, and it splits really well. But I think the 59/c is the best bet because you can use either the brighter 59 or the warmer custom coil as a split, so you have multiple options, it would be like being able to get sort of a jb split tone but more tame and sort of a pg split tone, but more warm.

Im not sure how it reacts in parallel mode though. Most people go with the custom coil when splitting the 59/c because it's meatier, and closer to a true stratlike single coil.

I have an Epi LP with a Pearly Gates neck, JB brick, coil split. I think the PG sounds better split than the JB.
