  • Wiring a Strat

    Hello everyone,

I am attempting to rewire a Strat with new components. This is my first attempt at a complete rewire and hope my question is not laughable

Anyway, I am using this schematic: http://www.seymourduncan.com/support...1s_1h_1v_1t_5w

My question is, what is the wire running between and on the back of both pots? Its the one that runs under the hot output for the jack. I don't recall seeing that when I took the old components out.

Sorry for the novice question and thanks for any help.

    Re: Wiring a Strat

The ground wire from the jack is soldered both to the ground lug on the volume control, and to the back of the volume pot. So this means the volume pot casing is grounded. Then there is another wire soldered to the back of that pot, which connects to the casing of the next pot. This grounds the casing of the next pot. Same with the next pot, if there is one.

Grounding the pot casings has two effects:

    1. The pot casings act as shields around the signal inside them
    2. The pot casings can be used as a grounding point for pickups, bridge ground wire, tone capacitors, and anything else that needs to be grounded.
