  • Wiring Problem, Volume's not working correctly

Using the wiring diagram provided by the site I replaced the Alpha pots with the better made CTS brand. When the volume is on 10 it's fine but as soon as you turn it to 9 it's dead. I even tried another brand new pot and the same problem. I tore it down and rewired it completely at least 3-4 times to make sure it wasn't my fault. For the last 20 years I have always done my own work on my guitars and have never encountered this problem so any help from experienced players is appreciated.

I can only think of one thing that would cause this, and that would be the wiper lifting off the carbon trace. This is usually caused by applying too much heat to the cover while soldering to the back of the pot. Ideally, you should just measure ohms between the "high" end of the pot and the wiper. If the reading goes to infinite, thats the problem.

      ^ +1.
Sounds like you fried the pot.

Thanks guys, I'll have to get another pot and give it a go.

A quick shout out to the members, thanks and it turned out to be a fried pot. I threw another one in and it's all good now.
