I just picked up a 1988 (Serial # E8) Japanese Strat from my neighbor.
From what I could gather up this morning, it is somewhat of a rarity.
Model STR75
Poplar body with real birdseye maple top (from what I read, the photo-flame series were not released until 1990)
Pro-Feel Series
22 fret maple neck, 12" radius, rosewood fretboard, medium jumbo frets
Gold hardware
Contoured neck heel like the American Deluxe Strats now have
Takeuchi Fender EX-Trem bridge
From what I gather about the pickups, they are the Fender Original Hot Rod 7S (neck and middle) and 8H bridge humbucker.
They sound really good so far! A little hot for a Strat, but I'm not really a mellow tone guy.
Does anyone know anything about these pickups?
