  • Not Happy with Jb

Im loving my new crate amp and the sounds im getting out of my les paul with it. I use the emg 85 in the bridge and get a nice crunchy sound for rhythm and its not harsh so the leads cut but don't make your ears bleed. however the jb is giving me a muddy sound for rhythm, however the lead tone is to die for. What seymour duncan pup will give me what im looking for? nice and tight cruchy rhythm that cuts good but the treble isn't to high

You may need to adjust the eq when going between duncans & EMGs. I always need to do a little tweaking with mine.

Maybe you should try the SH-5 Custom pickup for that sound that you want.

Mud? Ussually people claims the JB to be trebly, (or upper middy). Are you sure you have treaked it enought? Did you play with gain?

I gotta agree, the JB isn't exactly a muddy PU by any stretch of the imagination...

Can't think of any better suggestions than the ones everyone else gave though...

raise it REALLY close to the strings and adjust the A, D, G and B screws a bit to follow the arch of your fretboard.

The traits you described as wanting are the Custom Custom. Also, make sure your LP is setup really good, otherwise a sloppy setup can often result in muddiness.
