blackout modular preamp refuses to work

Guys,

I'm working on a guitar and I think I'm losing my mind. I've been working on the wiring on and off for about two weeks now. It's got EVO's (damn) and the owner wants a blackout preamp module as well as an EMG afterburner.

The issue at hand is that there seems to be a noisegate or some kind of 'gate' inside the blackout because only if I pick HARD, the signal comes through. Even with a fresh battery pack. Even with an alt8 in stead of the Evo. I have to pick HARD to get a noise and even that's a buzzing noise, not a real sound or tone.

The customer is very, very annoying and anxious and keeps putting pressure to finish the guitar.

could there be something wrong with the blackout module?

Sounds like there's not enough voltage across the circuit. There's probably a short somewhere in there and smashing tell strings creates enough voltage swing for a buzzy signal.

the battery pack is fresh. and...wouldn't the afterburner stop working if there's a short? same battery...I even put the module in a different guitar and in that guitar: same issue.

I meant that the short sounds internal to the Blackout preamp.
