  • Mustang Pickups. Neck or Bridge?

Hi, I just purchased a fender japanese reissue of the 69 competition mustang and I'm looking at purchasing a hot rail for the bridge and a jb jr. for the neck. I was looking at musiciansfriend.com and they offer both of them in the bridge and neck positions. What I'm trying to figure out is because both pickups on the mustang are slanted and the pickups I want are geared towards strats, which of course only have a slanted pickup in the bridge, should I purchase both pickups with the bridge option? Or should I select them where I want to put them? BTW this is my first time trying to replace pickups.

Hey pristvedt; Welcome to the forum. If it was me, I'd get a neck for the neck, and a bridge for the bridge. The slant isn't so important as the fact that the bridge position has less string excursion, and thus needs a slightly hotter p'up.

That should be a nice axe with that combo.

Thank You for the response. I didn't know how much of an impact the slant had. As such I will be purchasing them the way you suggested.
