I have a number of HSS guitars (non-Fender) and I have had mixed results matching the middle and neck pups. I prefer a good bridge pup, and try to match from there, with my favorite settings being bridge only, bridge/middle mixed, neck only. I have found the middle only, if single coil, lacks power and punch enough to compete on it's own, and middle/neck combination equally as useless. I plan to start with a 58/hybrid in the bridge, and a little '59 in the neck to give it a voicing of it's own that will blend perfectly with the hybrid. Now, what to do about the middle? I'm thinking a hot stack plus, but the only other options are Hot Stack, Hot Stack Plus, or Hot Rails.
