  • Need some quik instructions

    How do I wire this for

    Bucker => Volume => on/off (using a three way toggle - likely on/on/off) => Output jack

    Important Notes:

    Duncan Detonator pickup - red and white already "wrapped" and two blacks - one thick, one thin ????

    Standard Volume

    Switch - 3-way, with four prongs on bottom side and one on top

    Output - typical output

    I want to do this once and do it right!

      You can do either the pot or switch first...its up to you.

        Re: Need some quik instructions

        I hope your guitar is shielded, otherwise those unshielded wires are gonna send radio stations to the amp.

        I have a detonator. IIRC the thick black wire is actually the equivalent to the green and bare wire already being soldered together, so it will go to the back of the pot. The jack's sleeve wire (I think that is the black one) will also go to the back of the pot.

        The little black (hot) on the pickup will go to the pot's open outer lug.

        I'm not sure the specifics of your switch, but it looks like it is an on/on/on switch that corresponds to the black wire acting as the common terminal and the three on the bottom are the ones it switches between. It looks as though the middle position is the one that will connect, so wire the black switch to the middle lug of the pot and the yellow wire to the red jack wire.

        Since that wiring suddenly breaks the connection when you throw the switch, doing so would act like unplugging the guitar from the jack while it's still on. That's bad. Instead, wire the switch so that the other two empty terminals run to ground instead of being left open. Run a small jumper wire from one open outer terminal to the other and connect one more wire from this to the back of the pot. That should cover all your bases. Outer positions on the switch will be "off" and the middle will be "on."

        Someone please confirm or refute this. It's been a long day for me, I might be mistaken. I don't want potentially bad advice to be followed.

            I have chose pot first because of the control arrangement.
