    I meant, I've never heard an SD Lipstick tube.

    I doubt Danelectro uses a Duncan. I've got a Dana 12-string Bellzouki with the single Lipstick tube. I know what you mean about its tone. I'll be replacing it with an SD.

      You don't need a special pickup for that tone. Just set your amp to get it. Get an outboard e.q. if you have to.

        I know the tone I'm after - I've got it from two humbuckers in the middle position - I just want the same tone from a single pickup in the neck position.
        Anything is possible, just not always advisable...

          This is getting silly. If you want low output, then get low output.

          A Vintage Rails split will give you about the lowest output and thinnest sound you can get (in SD pups).
