  • Antiquity HB Nickel Cover Came Off

    Hey guys,

I have a pair of Antiquity HBs in a Strat & the nickel cover on the neck pickup has somehow become unattached. Since these pickups are unpotted, other than resoldering the cover to the base, is there anything else I need to do to reattach it without an unwanted feedback, problems, etc?

A lot of people here recommend putting masking tape over the slug coils to eliminate some metal-to-metal contact, which could cause microphonics.

I use a thin double sticking tape.

Sorry for the delay in posting a pic. It is kinda odd and at the heart of it, I bet is an error on the person who installed it (me). I’ve heard good things about the double stick tape, so I think that’s what I’m gonna do. But here’s what it looks like. Weird, huh?

Yeah, this is an amateur removal of the cover. I hate that.

Yeh, just put the tape over the slugs, put the cover down tightly on the coils (the tape should hold it in place), then solder the cover on the base. Good to go.

Well, I wasn't TRYING to remove it... still, no arguing that may amateur installation skills created the problem. I think something under the pick guard is pushing it. I'm pulling these out soon so I can use them in my Epiphone Dot. Putting in a set of uncovered PGs.
