  • Fourth Time Is A Charm...Phat Cats to the Rescue!

A little video of my new build. It's a thinline walnut hollowbody.
Very bright, punchy guitar that took a few tries to get right with pickups.
First, a telecaster neck pickup went in. That didn't sound too bad but the pole piece alignment was awful.
Second, an SM-3 firebird pickup. Solved the alignment problem but wasn't quite right. Not enough flavor.
Third, a Lollar El Rayo. Great pickup, waaaaay too bright for this.
Finally, a pair of Phat Cats went in. Bingo.

In the video, Ash is playing straight into a Hughes & Kettner Silver Edition. Basically a 60 watt Marshall style. The audio isn't the best but live it sounds like a 335 or maybe a P90 equipped semi hollow of some sort. It has the big fat mids but a little more strat-like on the high end. The overdrive isn't quite as gritty as my soapbar equipped guitar. A little smoother on the dirt.

Ash plays the new walnut hollow body over a bottle of whiskey.

Thanks, Seymour. You really came through on this one!

Phat Cats look great with the rosewood bridge!

Put it through a heavy workout all weekend and it held up like a champ.

    White guitars get dirty, though.

The guitar has an awesome tone. Looks like he was playing through the neck pup. Too bad it was so out of tune, though.
