  • Need some help from the Duncan fanatics...

About a year ago I got a 59B in a pup trade from a forum member. I know it's an older one because it just as the sticker with the large type that says "59 B." I'm trying to figure out what years that these pups were made. It has a stock A5 mag, but it has more mid-range than any other 59B I have every had. Its almost a creamy mid range. Very pleasing to the ear, and very musical through any amp I've put it through. I'd like to try to find another one for that time period. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks! Joel

Or was the magnet swapped at some point? '59's aren't known for being creamy PU's.

Are you sure, most alnicos look the same. Have you put it on a multimeter? An 8.3K '59B with an A5 is not a creamy-sounding PU. Either it's wound hot or it has a different magnet.

I know for sure the mag is an A5, because I put it in there. The previous owner had a rough cast A5 in it. And I'm not a fan of the rough cast.

So what's the reading on a multimeter?

DMM reads out 8.4, which isn't terribly hot for a PAF style pickup. I really don't know what is going on with it, other that it sounds really good.

The 59 in question. Probably not the best clip to judge the tone on, but it's the one I had on you tube.
