  • DiMarzio X2N very quick review

Tried to search X2N, so as not to repeat things that have been said over and over, but search is down. So maybe that's good, I won't just repeat someone else's info...

So I just installed the X2N on my basswood body, maple neck & fretboard 2010 Ibanez RG (Edge III tremolo).

I liked it very very much. I was afraid that it might be "too much" or "shrill" sounding or "too bright", but it was certainly none of those.

It's certainly a high output humbucker, which is what I wanted for the bridge position.

The EQ is nice for me, crunches very nicely with my distortion pedal, plenty of Mids, plenty of high, not too much low.
The leads were also surprisingly pleasant to my ears. The leads on the Fast Track in the middle position also very enjoyable.

The two DiMarzios in the guitar currently verified that I do need to change out the neck pickup though, so I'm in the market for a neck humbucker.

Overall after using an X2N for the first time, it's a winner in my book.

did you find it to be smoother than the super distortion?
how are its cleans, fitted in that guitar? not saying your gui is dirty, just wondering how it gets along with the trem ; ]

Man, I haven't played using a Super D in years. Smooth really isn't a word I would use to describe this, but it's certainly not harsh.

Wish that I could answer your question better.

Something with more highs, more "chimey". Ordered a humbucker from hell, so we'll see how that goes.

Every now and again I want to buy a strat and put a X2N in the bridge to get that 'Fast' Eddie Clarke sound. Then I remember that he played in one of the loudest bands on record, and I stop kidding myself.

I recently got a X2N to compare to my Nazgul in a 7 string RG.

Pretty excited to hear the differences.

I imagine the X2N would be awesome in a 7 string RG!

Spent some more time with it, it sounds AWESOME split, and I am ready to say it's my new favorite bridge humbucker.

The leads really are pretty smooth, once again better than I would have imagined.

If you have NOT wired it series/parellel/split - DO IT!

I can say enough for the X2N when wired like this. I had one in an Old Kramer. Man - you could play anything on there.

Humbucker - Ultra smooth, ultra balanced, and just stupid loud.
Parellel - Just even and clear and beautiful with amazing articulation.
Series - A great single tone with nice texas bite.

                      Been there, and I agree.

An X2N loaded Strat going to a TS-9 into a Celestion loaded Fender Twin was my gig rig for a few years. Once in a while I used a 4x12. Good god, that was a righteous thunderous rig!

                        I'm sure you meant "split".
