  • Which Single Active?

    Hi all.

I'm looking in to purchasing a new Ibanez S571dxqm. I know for sure that I want to replace the passives that come with the guitar with AHB-3's. But as far as the third slot for a single coil, does anyone have a recommendation on which pickup I should put there? (Would only be using the single coil for cleans mainly)

    Thanks.

i can tell you the livewire II singles have an amazing clean sound. I had a set in a strat for a while and the cleans were awesome. Thats been my only experience with active pups. No idea how they would mix with the blackouts.

I feel comfortable saying the Blackout single coil would work well.

And I'm jealous. I em want to get an Ibanez and load it up with actives.

I can tell you that I just purchased an RG450dxb, and put the AHB-3's in it...It's the best modern metal tone I have come across to this point. Super happy. That's why i'm looking at another Ibanez (to replace my ESP) With the RG, I was able to just buy a new pick guard and cover the third slot. (on the S-series that's not an option due to the fact that there's no pick guard)Click image for larger version
