  • Humbucker Identification, SD JNJ?

    Hi,

I need help with the identification of this pickup. Is it possible that this is an SD JNJ? If so, can it be dated to a year of manufacture?
    Thanks!

you have a nice pickup there; as rand-o-monium already stated - it's an MJ pickup - I see quite a few JBJ's, 59NJ's, DCJ's, & DDJ's, but I rarely ever see any JNJ's, 59BJ's, and not too many APH1NJ"S. If you don't need the money, I would hold onto it. Otherwise, check ebay closely to see what people have been paying for what you've got. If you're willing to wait, you can sell it for quite alot. I've never paid more than $55 for any of my MJ pickups, but I've seen people pay $100 buy now for JBJ's, so I would think you could get slightly more for a JNJ. Lso, I noticed it doesn't have any engraving on the baseplate, so it is one of the earlier made ones. I have a JBJ from a 1980 LP custom with no engraving, just the JBJ sticker, so yours would seem to be at least that old.

I've never found this to be true and I've had and sold many "J" pickups. Sorry!

Peanut buttet jelly sandwiches that MJ makes are also slightly more expensive.

that's getting close enough to consider having MJ just wind you a totally new JBJ or JNJ. save yourself the hassle of someone else's paperweight and get yourself a nice new one that's never been molested by someone else's fat greasy fingers between rounds of stabbing away at Smoke On The Water.

I agree! For $160 you can get a new MJ custom pickup, hell - you can even have it made in double cream if you want. But last week I saw someone click "buy now" for a vintage double cream JBJ in very good condition, but still, $200? - pretty amazing.

$200. That's crazy. Guys with a bunch of zebra JBJs could build their own double cream models and have an early Christmas.

I just had a thread suggesting a "j" line since they are going for crazy money and there's obviously a market

I don't see myself selling my 1995 '59n J for less than what a "boutique" or a Custom Shop p'up would cost, and not anytime soon, if ever, either.

It has performed/is performing brilliantly throughout several guitars and really many mag swaps.

                              HTH,
