  • To Neck the SH-1B, or Not? This is the question!

    Hello there!

My first post here, and I am glad I join the Seymour Duncan community

    "Introducing":

As a guitarist I own a Fernandes LesPaul Monterey Elite (the one with the sustainer kit installed at neck and a SD JB at bridge position)

I wanted the kit to be removed and install the most obvious match pair for the JB, an SD sh1 '59
So far so good, except for my ignorance...

I bought a second hand (in a flawless condition) SD Sh-1B59... Not an Sh-1N
Yes, I bought a 59 bridge pickup to install it to the neck position

So, is it the same to install the bridge pickup sh-1 PU to the neck position?
    Or it will sound awful?

PS: Unfortunately, returning back the pickup, is not an option...

    Thanx!

I had one '59b in the neck position in my #2 for about three years. It got along pretty well with my Custom 5 in the bridge.

      If I didn't had the opportunity of A/B it with a '59n, I wouldn't've changed.

      HTH,

WoW! Rand-O-Monium, and LtKojak thank you!

        I wasn't expecting such a fast response!!!

So, Seymour releases two types of SH-1 (neck and bridge).
What are the differences between them? And any cons on installing at neck position?

          HTH,
What is that you saw (heard ) that made you to switch to SH-1N?

A more harmonically-complex peak resonance, slightly higher articulation, a bit more of an 3-D, "airy" tone and a more "polite" behavior.

That difference has anything to do with something I can manage to get fixed? Perhaps, different setting on PU height?
Or even, is it going to be tough to manipulate over amp settings?

I was hoping for a balanced sound between the JB and the 59B at neck position.

              Btw, mostly play blues/rock/hard rock

You'll be fine, just use your ears.
Prolly back it off a little & raise the screws.Angle to taste,as well.

Main diff is Br models a little hotter w/"somewhat" more mids,I would guess...

                Do Eeeeet!!!

It'll have a little less treble. If that's not an issue, try it.

Should pair well with your JB. The only "rule" is that you want the neck to be of equal or less than your bridge in MV/total output.

I can attest to that. I use a 59n in my guitars and it got a phenomenal tone for cleans. The articulation is really great in a position that for me is notoriously "boomy".

"There is not such thing as rules at picking the right PU" it is always been said.
And of course "the rules are there only to be broken"

So I am gonna trust my ears. Unless I do it, I won't figure out if it fits me or not...

                              Thanx
