  • Vintage Rails and JB Jr HSS with coil tap - wire colors?

I have 2 Vintage Rails and a JB Jr. on a 1 volume, 2 tone strat that I want to set up with a push pull on the 2nd Tone control. I wired it up (using someone else's schematic) , but the second position doesn't sound right - it doesn't get the quack sound. I'm wondering if I have the polarity of the humbucker backwards.

I found your schematic at http://www.seymourduncan.com/support...2s_1v_2t_5w_pp, but I have a question about the wire colors.

The Vintage Rails have a red and white lead, plus a bare wire, which I assume should also go to ground? When I wired it up, I used the red for the "hot" lead and tied the white and bare wires to ground for the Neck and Mid pickups. So should I reverse this and have the red and bare wires go to ground?

Secondly, on your schematic, for the humbucker you have the black wire going to the 5 way, the red wire going to the coil tap switch, and the green and what I assume would be the white wire going to ground?
I had something very different, which probably explains why it didn't work.

First of all, IT MAKES NO SENSE TO SPLIT A VINTAGE RAIL !!!!.

In a Vintage Rail you have a coil working for the 3 upper strings and the other coil working for the 3 lower strings and, that means that if you split, you will get just half of your strings.
If you wanted something less hotter, just wire those with coils in parallel (black and red to hot and green, white and bare to ground).

No, It's the JB Jr in the bridge that I'm splitting - a 4 wire humbucker. HSS configuration.
