  • Best Metalcore pickups for Basswood body

    Hi there,

I'm getting my hands on an Ibanez RG721FM shortly. I've heard the CAP VM stock pickups might not have a great sound for Metalcore. Is there any suggestions of high output pickups that I could check out if that's true?

    Thanks!

      Dimebucker.

I threw one in my Ibanez RG320 on a whim and it pleasantly surprised me. The warmth of the Basswood body works quite well with this pickup. It tamed down the harsh highs I was getting in other guitars and the mids were brought up a little too, to the point where they're just right.

What type of amp are you running?

In that case I would go for the Dimebucker.
That amp has a GNARLY mid-punch that will compliment the highs and lows of the Dimebucker. Try and keep the pregain down a bit though or feedback will get you big. The Custom is also worth looking into.

I liked the EMG85 in a basswood bodied Charvel. And I do like how the 5150/6505 takes EMGs.

My vote is also for the Dimebucker. Runner up would be the Distortion or Alt 8.

The Black Winter can handle metalcore and anything else you decide to throw at it.

If you decide you want to learn some Jazz standards later on, they can handle those too.

Please check out the Black Winter owners thread here and see what you think.

Good luck and enjoy in good health,
