Ouch, I remember that kind of bridge, it was that transition period where Kahler bridge appeared side by side with vintage one and floyd rose mock up.

I definitely didn't like it, I'm sure part of the sound you perceive is produced by the light metal bridge.

I agree. Unfortunate but true. IMO, the OP should consider restoring that guitar with the old pickups and all the parts that came with it and then sell it.

Or trade it towards a vintage 50's or 60's style Fender Strat. An 80's MIJ Squier with a vintage style tremolo would be a good one. Or even a MIM Fender Strat like the Tex-Mex or Jimmie Vaughan.
