    I agree. Unfortunate but true. IMO, the OP should consider restoring that guitar with the old pickups and all the parts that came with it and then sell it.

    Or trade it towards a vintage 50's or 60's style Fender Strat. An 80's MIJ Squier with a vintage style tremolo would be a good one. Or even a MIM Fender Strat like the Tex-Mex or Jimmie Vaughan.
