I read on an ebay ad that the height of the pole pieces can be adjusted. I recently purchased 2 StagMags, so before I break something, I would just like to ask if anyone knows for sure? Description on ebay was that you can push up the magnets through the holes in the bottom plate. Is this true?

Yes it can be done. There's bobbin material between the coil and the magnets so moving them won't stuff the coils. I've got a Stag Mag, I've done such things.

The safe way is to use a drill press like pickup winders do.

Me too, I just unscrewed the baseplate, and used a wooden block and some pressure flatten them out.
You can also buy replacement magnets: 187x is the size and you'll want .630 or shorter.
