  • Middle and bridge singles used in neck and middle for HSS guitars

    Hi guys,
I'm pretty clueless about singles and Strats in general. I was wondering if it's common practice for someone with a high output bridge humbucker in an HSS Strat to take the middle and bridge singles from a 3 coil set and use those in the neck and middle.

It's my understanding that a lot of true vintage singles were wound identically. However I thought modern single sets might be wound slightly hotter from neck to bridge.

So I thought maybe a H S (bridge position S) and S (middle position S) might be something to try.

    Thanks.

Not all pickups are calibrated for their positions. So it's not uncommon for guitars to have the same pickups in multiple positions. I would use a multimeter to see if there's any difference between them? If there's no difference it doesn't matter where you put them. If there is a difference between them I would use the least powerful in the middle position to accentuate positions 2/4 on the switch.
