Re: Epiphone LP Black Beauty 3 wiring diagram
a plain pot for your middle p90 and a push-pull for your tone to give the all 3 pups on option if you want it (maybe you don't need that?).
What would be the possible use of a push-pull pot for the tone? Maybe to have all the three pickups in series mode?
You need a piece of 6 core shielded cable for the run from the switch to the control cavity (it runs under the pups).
Is this available on stewmac? I cannot see it, but maybe I am just wrong.
At the end, as far as I understand, I have the following possible choice of set-up (excluding out-of-phase wirings):
A) replace the pickups only and keep the 3 original selector and pots. This is the simplest option.
B) replace the pickups and buy the 6 way selector, but keeping the original pots.
In this configuration I can imagine the following combinations:
Selector 1 - neck
Selector 2 - middle
Selector 3 - bridge
Selector 4 - neck+middle (parallel)
Selector 5 - middle+bridge (parallel)
Selector 6 - neck+bridge (parallel)
Of course I could also keep selector 4 to 6 in any other parallel or series combination.
C) replace the pickups, keep the original 3 way selector and buy 2 push-pulls for the neck and bridge pups (keeping the original pots for the middle and tone).
In this configuration I can imagine the following combinations (pushed=parallel; pulled=series):
Selector 1 - neck (pushed)+bridge (pushed)=neck only sound
Selector 1 - neck (pushed)+bridge (pulled)=neck sound+bridge sound in parallel mode
Selector 2 - middle
Selector 3 - bridge (pushed)+neck (pushed)=bridge only sound
Selector 3 - bridge (pulled)+neck (pushed)=bridge sound+neck sound in series mode (or viceversa neck sound+bridge sound in series mode, if it does make any difference - I am not sure about it)
In this situation I would not give many options to the middle pickup.
D) replace the pickups, buy the 6 way selector and 2 push-pulls for the neck and bridge pups (keeping the original pots for the middle and tone).
In this configuration I can imagine the following combinations: (pushed=parallel; pulled=series):
Selector 1 - neck (pushed)+bridge (pushed)=neck only sound
Selector 1 - neck (pushed)+bridge (pulled)=neck sound+bridge sound in series mode
Selector 2 - middle
Selector 3 - bridge (pushed)+neck (pushed)=bridge only sound
Selector 3 - bridge (pulled)+neck (pushed)=bridge sound+neck sound in series mode
Selector 4 - neck (pushed)+middle=neck+middle in parallel mode
Selector 4 - neck (pulled)+middle=neck+middle in series mode
Selector 5 - middle+bridge (pushed)=middle+bridge in parallel mode
Selector 5 - middle+bridge (pulled)=middle+bridge in series mode
Selector 6 - neck (pushed)+bridge (pushed)=neck+bridge in parallel mode
Selector 6 - neck (pulled)+bridge (pushed)=neck+bridge in series mode
Selector 6 - neck (pulled)+bridge (pulled)=neck+bridge in parallel mode
In this situation I can have many more possibilities.
Am I correct with the above?
Which mode should I use (parallel vs series) as a default?
Should I also think about out-of-phase combinations (maybe using the pull option of the tone to out-of-phase the combination - which is by default in-phase)? Like it is explained
here?
At the end, are all these options really useful (taking into account that I have a Boss GT-100 pedalboard which already is able to accomodate much more sounds than I actually need

)? Plenty of choice is good in theory, but in practice it may just be useless...
Thanks again for your help!
