The pickup works fine but I noticed that he just clipped one of the old cables from the volume pot so there's like a half an inch of old cable just sticking out from the volume pot not connected to anything. Also, the "bare" wire is a lot longer than it was on the older pickup, leaving much of it exposed. My quesion is, should I cleanup the old cable sticking out from the volume pot and also do something about the highly exposed bare wire and if not, is this effecting the performance of the pickup at all? Thanks

Re: Question after having a tech install a pickup
well for 1 I would cut that wire that he left on the volume pot, I think that was just him being lazy.

Re: Question after having a tech install a pickup
It often takes more heat to remove braided sheilding from the pot chassis than it does to install it and over heating the chassis can damage the pot. He may have just been trying to avoid cooking your components.
Extra lead length won't effect anything inside the control cavity.www.soundclick.com/failedgrace

Re: Question after having a tech install a pickup
i always slip some heatshrink insulating tubing over the bare because i dont want to risk it accidently shorting a hot line to ground .. i would snip that hanging wire back too ... no sense leaving it as a little antenna in there just waiting to pick up some interference
good luck
