Re: telecaster, a heavy metal guitar?
Telecasters are the most versatile instruments in the world. I'm not a huge fan of them and I personally have a love/hate relationship with mine, but would you like to guess which guitar I take to EVERY show? They'll play anything from ABBA to ZZ Top, and sound good doing it.

When yopu consider the Tele´s history, it´s actually kind of predestined for Rock (with other pickups, although some stock Tele bridges can make a few humbuckers cringe in fear as well).
Back then, Country was what metal is today: the hardest, heaviest stuff with a general audienceZerberus Industries: Where perfection just isn't good enough.

Check out Shihad's 1st and 2nd albums - one of the guitarists uses a stock tele and he absolutely rips on the heavy riffs...'Without music life would be a mistake'.

Tom Morello uses a stock Tele for his Dropped D stuff, including RATM's heavier songs like "Killing In the Name" and "Born of a Broken Man".Gibson SG Standard (498T/498R)
Schecter C-1 Elite (Custom/59)
Fender Deluxe Double Fat Strat (Carvin SD22/M22N)
Yamaha FG-413S acoustic
Marshall G15CDR
Marshall JCM 2000 DSL100
Marshall 1960A
Boss ME-50
...and just a little talent.

Re: telecaster, a heavy metal guitar?
I use my tele completely stock and get great metal/rock sounds. The pickups cut through the band and esp. when using a higher gain amp it allows the notes to articulate clearly. It is THE perfect guitar and versatile as hell!

Re: telecaster, a heavy metal guitar?
The hotrails is just an awesome pickup period.I think one in a tele would sound great. And like mentioned above, bands like Thursday and Poision the Well have done it, so why not.

Re: telecaster, a heavy metal guitar?
I have EMG pups in my tele. It plays every style...I'm not kidding!! I used it for country style stuff when jamming with some friends and it really delivered. I play mostly metal, though, and it is quite good there too.
I think I might change the pups to QP's though.
