    I've never really tried a real vintage PAF, TBH, but I think the PAF 36th Anni neck sounds fantastic. I definitely hear more similarities between it and Burstbucker Pro and Duncan '59 and vintage-voiced pickups than to something like a Crunch Lab or Dominion or anything that's modern-voiced.

      No worries. Most people haven't. Seths are the real deal. Pearly gates and 59s are close enough unless you're a purist and won't tolerate potting and polished magnets.

      Honestly, it's about playing. Chasing tone is either a diversion or an excuse.

      ...and if high gain is your bag, why should you care about vintage spec pickups (as if there was a spec)?

        Watch any great player on YouTube (e.g. Pete Thorn) and see how they make anything sound great.

        As Clapton says, "tone is in the trousers".
