  • removing wires from old pickups

I recently took out the old pickups in my guitar to put in new ones (SD P-Rails with Triple Shots). I was having trouble getting the wires off the pots using my soldering iron, so I just cut the wires. When I install the new ones, is it an issue if the old wire is still there? If I completely cover it with solder or tape off the end of the wire sticking out, is that ok? Or do I need to completely remove the old wire bits?

its not an issue really but its pretty messy, you should be able to get the old wires off with your iron. are you heating the wires or the pot case? its a lot easier to heat the wire in this case

when soldering to a pot case, i heat the case to make sure the solder makes good connection to the wire. when you are just trying to get the wire off, heating the wire should take less heat since there is less metal
